Main responsibilities include:
• fieldwork in Nahuatl-speaking communities in Mexico, collection of ethnolinguistic data;
• analysis of field material: transcription, translation into Spanish and English; identification of language changes induced by culture contact;
• working with a computer database: introducing data on language change in Nahuatl together with full contextual information as well as with translation into Spanish and English;
• presentation of results of research at conferences and international meetings, as well as publishing them as journal articles;
Primary objectives include:
• achievement of scientific results regarding the process of language change in Nahuatl through the colonial and postcolonial era
• contribution to the increase of interest in Nahuatl in the academic world and beyond
• contribution to the development of Nahuatl revitalization programs

Description

Major areas of responsibility include:
• conducting fieldwork among Nahuatl-speaking communities in Mexico, gathering ethnolinguistic data (recording speeches, songs, conversations, etc. in Nahuatl);
• analysis of the gathered material: transcription, translation into Spanish and English; identification of language changes induced by cultural contact;
• conducting research on modern Nahua culture in close relationship to language
• working with a computer database: introducing data regarding language change in Nahuatl together with full contextual information as well as with translation into Spanish and English;
• presentation of the results of research during conferences and international meetings, publishing results in form of journal papers

Primary objectives include:
• accomplishment of scientific results related to the process of language change in Nahuatl through the colonial and postcolonial eras
• contribution to the increase of interest in Nahuatl in the academic world and beyond
• contribution to the development of Nahuatl revitalization programs

Additional Requirements

The acquaintance with language politics and native languages revitalization programs in Mexico. Modern Nahuatl teaching experience. At least several years of team work experience.
The following documents should be submitted in the secretary of the Faculty “Artes Liberales” no later than February 4:
• the application addressed to Vice-Chancellor of the University of Warsaw
• personal questionnaire, photo attached
• curriculum vitae, including data on research and organisational experience and teaching activities
• the copy of MA diploma
• the list of publications
• research plans following the general profile of the Faculty “Artes Liberales”
• statement confirming that the University of Warsaw will be the primary workplace of the candidate, as established by the legislation “Prawo o szkolnictwie wyższym” of July 27, 2005.
