Welcome to the website of the Birmingham Inter-Industry Translation Conference organized by HD Translations, in cooperation with The conference is a three-day event that will take place from Friday 16 April to Sunday 18 April 2010, set at the heart of Tolkien country in the pleasant leafy setting of Spring Hill College in Moseley. For more information about the Spring Hill College venue, please visit the Venue tab.

The event aims to bring together individuals and companies working within or which are involved with the Translation industry. A true meeting of minds from the world of IT, publication, as well as representatives of various key industries and of major translation organisations and bodies in the UK.

The conference is designed with an interactive, hands-on approach in mind. Rather than lectures, small workshops with demonstrations will be held, to discuss the function of CAT-tools and other software issues, vital tools in the everyday work of translation professionals. Yet, this will still be a networking event with amenities available for people to relax and socialise.

Booking Procedure

A new booking system has been created for this conference, on a shopping cart system basis.

To start the booking procedure, you will need to choose one of the 3 options as your basic package:

  1. booking the Corporate Day       — Friday only
  2. booking the Freelancers’ Days   — Saturday and Sunday
  3. booking all 3 days                   — Friday to Sunday

After this initial selection, you will access the “platform”, and you will be able to:

  1. choose your workshops and their times
pick the workshop you want and select a time slot. Repeat for all workshops.
  2. select your lunch menus
You need to select your lunch options when booking else it means you will not be having lunch with us on that day.
  3. pick the social activities you want to attend and all their details.

This new platform also enables you to carry out this booking procedure in several stages and to retain all your selections. This being said, if you book but do not check-out, when you next visit, some of your options might not be available anymore (seats in restaurant, seat for a workshop at a specific time, etc).

Companies will have the possibility to book several staff members in one single booking.

There are, however, a few restrictions that must be taken into account:

  • All people registering for the conference must be registered users. Registration is free, quick and easy, but you will need their user ID to be able to add that person.
  • If you choose one specific package, all users will be registered for the same package. For instance, if you want to book the Corporate Day for one member of your staff and the Freelancers’ Days for another, you will need to carry out 2 separate bookings.

To benefit from a discount (see the discount section), you will need to submit a support request to before starting the booking procedure specifying the relevant membership and the names and profile IDs of the participants and attaching proofs of membership (member card, etc)

Discounts are not cumulative and only one can apply per booking. For instance if you are a member of both ITI and NWTN, you can only choose one of your memberships as evidence.

Furthermore discounts are nominal. For each user, you will need to provide a copy of the relevant certificate.

Companies with ATC membership or ASLIB memberships, can submit a support request specifying the name and the number of intended attendees to speed up the procedure.

No refund will be given after check-out if you forgot to apply for a discount!!
